📧 DAY 6 – Resources That Make You a Stronger Golf Parent
Great support comes from great learning. The more you understand the game, the more helpful and less reactive you can be.
You don’t have to be a golf expert to be a great golf parent.
But when you take the time to learn how the game actually works mentally, physically, and emotionally, you gain clarity.
You communicate better. You over-coach less. You support smarter.
This isn’t about giving more advice. It’s about creating an environment where your child can grow and perform with less pressure and more trust.
Below are some books for parents who want to understand golf performance, mental strength, skill development, and how to help their kids do better.
The Self-Driven Child – William Stixrud & Ned Johnson
This book teaches how to give kids more control over their lives especially in high-pressure environments like sports. Essential for building healthy motivation and resilience.
Raising an Athlete – Jack Perconte
This book offers real-life strategies to be supportive without micromanaging, and how to deal with setbacks, pressure, and long-term growth as a sports parent.
The Champion’s Mind – Jim Afremow
A go-to mental game book for athletes of all levels but incredibly valuable for parents who want to understand the mental demands of competition and how to talk to their child with the right tone and timing.
Changing the Game – John O’Sullivan
Focused entirely on youth sports, this book explains how to stop the over-coaching and pressure that drive kids out of sports and how to create an environment where they thrive.
Every Shot Must Have a Purpose – Pia Nilsson & Lynn Marriott
This book shifts your understanding of golf from “swing perfection” to “performance clarity.” You'll learn how elite coaches help players stay present, play with intention, and practice in ways that actually transfer to the course. Eye-opening for parents.
Golf is Not a Game of Perfect – Dr. Bob Rotella
A foundational mental game book that helps parents see golf through the player’s eyes. Learn how fear, self-talk, and expectations affect your junior and how to be a calmer, more grounded presence in their journey.
The Tiger Slam: The Inside Story of the Greatest Golf Ever Played – Kevin Cook
It’s a rare inside look at what it takes to achieve greatness. The book breaks down how Tiger Woods won four consecutive majors in 2000–2001, if you are a golf fan… READ IT!

Key Insight:
When you study the game through the lens of the best coaches, athletes, and psychologists, you stop reacting emotionally and start thinking like a guide. Learning more means showing up with clarity, patience, and the long-term mindset your junior needs most.
