Blow up on a hole? Here’s how to reset fast.

Every golfer hits bad shots. Champions recover faster. It’s all about what you do next.

🧭 How to bounce back faster:

  • Interrupt the spiral.
    → Step away. Breathe. Reset your body and mind.
    → Use a phrase like: ā€œNext shot. Fresh start.ā€

  • Shift your focus.
    → See a missed fairway as a chance to show off your creativity
    → See a missed green as a challenge for your short game
    → Build pride in how you respond, not how you react

  • Stick to your routine.
    → The moment things go sideways is when you need your routine most.

āœļø My personal story

Golf isn’t about hiding your emotions. Even though the best players I’ve been around do a great job keeping it together, they’re not robots, they just control it the best they can.

When I hit bad shots and it’s always when, not if, I let myself react however my brain decides in the moment. Sometimes I say something loud in Spanish. Sometimes I drop the club (honestly, I never know when that’s going to happen). But I don’t slam clubs or disrespect the people I’m around.

The video I’m sharing was from a round I played with my juniors. It was hot, and the ball was flying farther than usual. I hit a shot and it went over the green, dropped the club right in front of one of my students. I always tell them it’s ok to react and even get mad but you better move on QUICK from it.

But by the time I got to the ball, I was already thinking how cool the next shot was going to be. The miss before? Didn’t even cross my mind. I got up and down for par.

Whether or not you let your emotions out is your choice. Just make sure that by the time you’re over your next shot, there’s not a single trace of the last one in your head. Golf is a game of misses and recovering from them. Nothing more, nothing less.
